The Bhutan SDF — what it is and what it costs
The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a per-person daily fee that goes towards Bhutan's healthcare, education and environment. For Indian travelers, it's currently ₹1,200 per person per night.
Children aged 6-12 pay 50% SDF; children under 6 are exempt. You pay it for the number of nights you spend in Bhutan — so a 5-night trip = ₹6,000 per adult just on SDF.

Smart ways to save on Bhutan
- Travel September or November — same weather as peak season but 15-20% cheaper.
- Skip Phuentsholing overnights — drive Bagdogra → Thimphu in one push.
- Bundle with Darjeeling or Sikkim for a longer Eastern Himalayan circuit (saves on cab repositioning).
- Stick to 4-5 nights inside Bhutan; the SDF makes longer stays expensive.
- Choose 4★ over 5★ — Bhutan's 4★ hotels are genuinely lovely.
A 5-night Bhutan trip from India lands honestly around ₹55,000-70,000 per person mid-range, including SDF and everything in-country. Cheaper is possible, premium is unlimited. We'll build it around your dates.
